our christmas tree around the world...

Did you know ...

Make sure you go all the way to the bottom, the picture and information about Arlington Cemetery in the winter, before Christmas is beautiful!

The Capitol Christmas tree in Washington, D.C., is decorated with 3,000
ornaments that are the handiwork of U.S. schoolchildren. Encircling
evergreens in the 'Pathway of Peace' represent the 50 U.S. states.

The world's largest Christmas tree display rises up the slopes
of Monte Ingino outside of Gubbio, in Italy's Umbria region.
Composed of about 500 lights connected by 40,000 feet of wire,
the 'tree' is a modern marvel for an ancient city

A Christmas tree befitting Tokyo's nighttime neon display is
projected onto the exterior of the Grand Prince Hotel Akasaka.

Illuminating the Gothic facades of Prague's Old Town Square,
and casting its glow over the manger display of the famous
Christmas market, is a grand tree cut in the Sumava mountains
in the southern Czech Republic.

Venice 's Murano Island renowned throughout the world
for its quality glasswork is home to the tallest glass tree
in the world. Sculpted by master glass blower Simone
Cenedese, the artistic Christmas tree is a modern
reflection of the holiday season.

Moscow celebrates Christmas according to the Russian Orthodox
calendar on Jan. 7. For weeks beforehand, the city is alive with
festivities in anticipation of Father Frost's arrival on his magical
troika with the Snow Maiden. He and his helper deliver gifts under
the New Year tree, or yolka, which is traditionally a fir.

The largest Christmas tree in Europe (more than 230 feet tall)
can be found in the Praa do Comrcio in Lisbon, Portugal.
Thousands of lights adorn the tree, adding to the special
enchantment of the city during the holiday season.

'Oh Christmas tree, oh Christmas tree': Even in its humblest attire,
aglow beside a tiny chapel in Germany's Karwendel mountains,
a Christmas tree is a wondrous sight.

Ooh la la Galeries Lafayette! In Paris, even the Christmas trees are chic.
With its monumental, baroque dome, plus 10 stories of lights and
high fashion, it's no surprise this show-stopping department store draws
more visitors than the Louvre and the Eiffel Tower

In addition to the Vatican's heavenly evergreen, St. Peter's Square
in Rome hosts a larger-than-life nativity scene in front of the obelisk.

The Christmas tree that greets revelers at the Puerta del Sol
is dressed for a party. Madrid's two-week celebration makes
millionaires along with merrymakers. On Dec. 22, a lucky citizen
will win El Gordo (the fat one), the world's biggest lottery.

A token of gratitude for Britain's aid during World War II,
the Christmas tree in London's Trafalgar Square has been
the annual gift of the people of Norway since 1947.

Drink a glass of gluhwein from the holiday market at the Romer
Frankfurt's city hall since 1405 and enjoy a taste of Christmas past.

Against a backdrop of tall, shadowy firs, a rainbow trio of
Christmas trees lights up the night (location unknown).

There is one Christmas Carol that has always baffled me.
What in the world do leaping lords, French hens,
swimming swans, and especially the partridge who won't come out
of the pear tree have to do with Christmas?

This week, I found out.
From 1558 until 1829, Roman Catholics in England were
not permitted to practice their faith openly. Someone
during that era wrote this carol as a catechism song for young Catholics.
It has two levels of meaning: the surface meaning
plus a hidden meaning known only to members of their church. Each
element in the carol has a code word for a religious reality
which the children could remember.
-The partridge in a pear tree was Jesus Christ.
-Two turtle doves were the Old and New Testaments.
-Three French hens stood for faith, hope and love.
-The four calling birds were the four gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke & John.
-The five golden rings recalled the Torah or Law, the first five books of the Old Testament.
-The six geese a-laying stood for the six days of creation.
-Seven swans a-swimming represented the sevenfold gifts of the Holy Spirit--Prophesy, Serving, Teaching, Exhortation, Contribution, Leadership, and Mercy.
-The eight maids a-milking were the eight beatitudes.
-Nine ladies dancing were the nine fruits of the Holy Spirit--Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness, and Self Control.
-The ten lords a-leaping were the ten commandments.
-The eleven pipers piping stood for the eleven faithful disciples.
-The twelve drummers drumming symbolized the twelve points of belief in the Apostles' Creed.
So there is your history for today. This knowledge was shared with me and I found it interesting and enlightening and now I know how that strange song became a Christmas Carol...so pass it on if you wish.'
Merry (Twelve Days of) Christmas Everyone

CHRISTMAS AT ARLINGTON CEMETERY
I wonder why the press hasn't enlightened the public about it??

Rest easy, sleep well my brothers.
Know the line has held, your job is done.
Rest easy, sleep well.
Others have taken up where you fell, the line has held..
Peace, peace, and farewell...

Readers may be interested to know that these wreaths -- some 5,000 -- are donated by the Worcester Wreath Co. of Harrington, Maine. The owner, Merrill Worcester, not only provides the wreaths, but covers the trucking expense as well. He's done this since 1992. A wonderful guy. Also, most years, groups of Maineschool kids combine an educational trip to DC with this event to help out. Making this even more remarkable is the fact that Harrington is in one the poorest parts of the state.

Margie's Texas Pecan Factory Cinnamon Roasted Recipe...

I make it in 5 lb batches, so if she is going to make less ~ adjust
measurements accordingly. On a side note, always start with really good
pecans. I get mine from Texas Pecan Factory (on Satsuma Rd in Dallas -
South of Forest off Josey Lane).

5 lb pecans
5 egg whites
5 TBSP water
4 - 5 cups sugar
5 tsp Cinnamon
5 tsp Salt

In small bowl, stir sugar, cinnamon & salt together - set aside. Put egg
whites & water in large bowl, mix (elec mixer) until fluffy. Add pecans &
stir until coated evenly. Add sugar mixture and stir until all the dry
ingredients are soaked into the pecans.

Spread pecans in 2 large baking pans. Bake at 250 degrees for 1 - 1/2 hours
or until dry, stirring every 20 minutes. I usually rotate the pans in my
oven every time I stir (ones on the top rack go to the bottom rack & vice
versa).

When done, spread on newspaper to cool.

  • 1/2 cup white sugar

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 225 degrees F (105 degrees C). Lightly grease a rimmed baking pan.
  2. Combine the egg white and water in a mixing bowl; beat until fluffy. Fold in the pecans to coat evenly. Combine the sugar, salt, and ground cinnamon in a shaker or cup with a lid. Dust the pecans evenly with the sugar mixture. Spread the nuts over the prepared pan.
  3. Bake in preheated oven until toasted and fragrant, stirring every 15 minutes, about 1 hour. Cool on pan, and store in an airtight container.

  1. Thank you, thank you, thank you for this recipe! I made a couple of changes after reading the reviews; vanilla instead of water, 2 egg whites and 1/2 white sugar and 1/2 brown sugar. My father loves pecans and I served this at his 60th birthday party. So many people asked me for this recipe I lost count after a while. Absolutely delicious and addiciting!

Bobby Flay's New York Strip with Blue Cheese, Vidalia Onion Jam and Warm Potato Salad with Mustard Vinaigrette

Recipe courtesy Bobby Flay, 2008 Show: Grill It! with Bobby FlayEpisode: Rib Eye Steaks

Onion Jam:

  • 2 tablespoons bacon drippings
  • 3 Vidalia onions, peeled, halved, sliced 1/4-inch thick
  • 2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
  • 1 jalapeno chile, finely diced
  • 1/2 cup red wine
  • 1/4 cup red wine vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons creme de cassis
  • 2 tablespoons grenadine
  • Honey, to taste
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh flat-leaf parsley: Directions

Heat grill to high. Heat a cast iron skillet until hot, but not smoking. Add the drippings, heat, and then the onions, garlic, jalapeno, wine, vinegar, cassis, grenadine and salt and pepper and cook, stirring occasionally, until the liquid mixture is thickened and jam-like, about 20 minutes. Taste and season with honey, salt and pepper. Stir in the parsley, transfer to a bowl and let cool to room temperature: Warm Potato Salad with Mustard Vinaigrette:

  • 2 1/2 pounds red new potatoes
  • 1/2 pound slab bacon, cut into lardons and cooked until golden brown and crisp, 2 tablespoons drippings reserved
  • 1/4 cup red wine vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • 2 cloves chopped garlic
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • 1/4 to 1/3 cup olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons roughly chopped basil leaves
  • 2 tablespoons roughly chopped flat-leaf parsley

Put the potatoes in a large saucepan, cover with cold water and season with 1 tablespoon kosher salt. Bring to a boil and cook until tender when pierced with a knife. Drain, let cool for a few minutes and quarter

While the potatoes are cooking, whisk together the drippings, vinegar, mustard, honey, garlic, salt and pepper. Slowly whisk in the olive oil, and then stir in the chopped basil and parsley.

Add the warm potatoes and the bacon to the vinaigrette and gently fold to combine. Serve with the steak: Grilled NY Strip:

  • 2 tablespoons kosher salt
  • 1 tablespoon coarsely ground black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon finely chopped fresh thyme leaves
  • Canola oil
  • 4 NY Strip steaks (12-ounces each) removed from the refrigerator 20 minutes before grilling
  • 3/4 pound wedge blue cheese (recommended: Cabrales), room temperature
  • 2 to 3 tablespoons heavy cream
  • Handful parsley sprigs

Heat the grill to high. Mix together the salt, pepper and thyme in a small bowl. Brush the steaks with oil on both sides and season with the salt mixture. Grill steaks until golden brown and slightly charred on both sides and cooked to medium-rare doneness.

Just before the steaks are done, use a fork to mash the cheese with some of the cream, so that it is chunky but a bit creamy. Mound some on each steak, and let melt very briefly, so the steaks don't overcook. Remove to a platter and let rest 5 minutes before serving. Top with parsley sprigs and serve. Bobby's World Famous Steak Rub from Mesa, Bar Americain and Bf Steak

  • 3 tablespoons ground coriander
  • 3 tablespoons dry mustard
  • 1 tablespoon ground cumin
  • 1 tablespoon kosher salt
  • 1 tablespoon ground black pepper

Thanks so much Ronnie.
December 17 is my last day with For Rent. It was my turn to get chopped after
13 years. Carrollton will be doing the Columbus Issue. I understand where they
are coming from but it's still difficult. I love this job, always have. So I
guess it's time to stop talking about doing Freelance and actually get busy
and do it. I have to say you were one of the most pleasant people I've
encountered in my years here, I loved working with you and enjoy your sense of
humor and candor. I'll still see you on Facebook and enjoy reading your
recipes, and hopefully now that I'll have some time on my hands, get to visit
my brother in Plano and stop by for some barbeque!!
Take care and have a Brilliant, Sparkling Holiday!
ciao amigo.

hard work will not pay off today and probably won't pay off tomorrow.
but hard work always pays off.
work hard at getting ur freelance career going and great things will come ur way.
and there are some jobs in dfw. if ur willing to move.
u never know which way the wind might blow. just sayin.
i will see u down the road and u will be eating some smokin ronnie's bbq fo sho.
luvudear.
ronnie

Thanks for the kind words Ronnie and the prayers, that means a lot to me.
You are right that this is a time of trust that God has a better plan for me than I could have for myself so its a test of faith as well, and in that I am confident.
Your mom is right and I will remember her words. Hope to see you in Texas one day! Can't move there right now, we could never sell the house in this market, for what we want anyway and my husband's job is here. I have a daughter in LA and another a sophomore in college here in Columbus so maybe when she graduates we may move to the West Coast.
The Winds of Change are not always negative, they can bring much growth and wisdom.
ciao for now.

Red Lobster Bahama Mama Ingredients and Red Lobster Stuffed Mushrooms Found At America’s Secret Recipes.

There are thousands of people searching for secret restaurant recipes everyday and like you are right now if you came upon this page looking for Red Lobster bahama mama ingredients, or even Red Lobster stuffed mushrooms, so what I did was include a couple of recipes for now.

The Olive Garden recipe for stuffed mushrooms is one of my absolute favorites! I enjoy ordering the yummy appetizer every time I dine at the Olive Garden with my friends. My variation is lighter than the restaurant version; it is made with olive oil and is baked with a tomato based sauce. Fewer cheeses in the recipe make it a more heart healthy dish. The end result is a delicious appetizer or buffet dish that will impress your family and friends.

Stuffed Mushrooms

1 pound medium or large mushrooms
1 cup dry bread crumbs
1 teaspoon dried basil
2 tablespoons grated parmesan cheese
minced or chopped fresh garlic (to taste)
salt and pepper (to taste)
2 tablespoons olive oil

Sauce

1 small onion, chopped
2 teaspoons olive oil
1- 8 ounce can tomato sauce
1/4 teaspoon oregano
fresh garlic (to taste)

Wash and dry the mushrooms and remove the stems. Hollow out the mushroom caps slightly by scraping with a teaspoon. Combine the bread crumbs, basil, parmesan cheese , garlic, salt and pepper and olive oil; mix well. Fill the mushrooms with the crumb mixture. Coat a shallow baking dish with nonstick cooking spray. Place the mushroom caps in the baking dish.

Prepare the sauce. Saute’ the onion in the oil in a small pan until it turns translucent. Add the remaining ingredients; stir well and simmer 10 minutes. Pour the sauce evenly over the mushrooms. Place in the oven and bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes or until thoroughly cooked.
