The First Annual Steve Mayberry Memorial Cookoff will be held at Carrollton’s McInnish Park (2335 Sandy Lake Road) beginning at 10 a.m. on Friday, September 16 and culminating at 4 p.m. on Saturday, September 17 with a final award ceremony. Cook teams are invited to compete for cash and trophies, and the public is invited to attend this event and enjoy some great barbecue. The event will also include live entertainment, food sales, vendor tables and more. An International Barbeque Cookers Association-sanctioned event, the cookoff was organized in loving memory of Steve Mayberry, a true Texan with strong ties to the Carrollton community who lost his life to colon cancer. All net proceeds from the event benefit Fight Colorectal Cancer, a leading national advocacy supporting colon cancer research and education. Cooks are invited to enter their best chicken, ribs and brisket for a chance to win one of several category prizes.
