R&R BBQ is smoking good in Utah...

Heather King

When you hear the word “barbecue”, does your mouth start watering for tender meat covered in tangy sauce? If so, there is a new taste sensation hitting the streets.

During the month of March, you can try R&R BBQ’s beef brisket by visiting Chow Truck and ordering the featured taco of the month. The R&R BBQ beef brisket taco comes on a corn tortilla with apple-cider vinaigrette slaw with feta and avocado garnish and R&R’s secret BBQ sauce.

R&R is made up of twin brothers Roger and Rod Livingston and these guys have BBQ chops. R&R BBQ is currently Utah’s highest nationally ranked competition BBQ team on the Kansas City BBQ Society circuit. In the first full year of competing, R&R finished 2010 ranked at 110th place out of 3500 teams. They ended the year in 63rd place in the Ribs Category and 83rd place in Chicken.

The brothers have a BBQ tradition in their family. Their uncle was a hog farmer and always smoked pork butts at family reunions, so they grew up on great BBQ and with an understanding of how to make incredible food. When they started BBQing they used just your basic little smokers from Home Depot but soon found their way to a larger smoker on a double-axle trailer made by East Texas Smoker Company. On any given weekend they can be found sharing their passion and love for BBQ with friends, family and neighbors. They love competing and have found a home in the BBQ community. They are also board members of Intermountain BBQ Association.

Currently, the brothers live in Taylorsville and Alpine, UT, but can be found traveling the western states to compete in competitions with the best of the best. The most recent was the London Bridge BBQ competition in Lake Havasu, AZ. They finished 3rd in Ribs and 8th overall.
