The
view of pipe smokers today is that of an old man, heavily bearded and
sitting in a rocking chair next to a fire enjoying a bowl of something
that smells great. This could be said of twenty years ago, of fifty
years ago or even one hundred years ago. This is just a common image
that would come to mind, and yet this hobby is significantly more
diverse in its clientele. There are many pipe sites out there, but I
feel like none of them show an accurate depiction of me and my friends
or the other hundreds of thousands of young pipe smokers throughout the
world. What are the countless traits of this generation of pipers, where
do we shop, what tobaccos and pipes do we smoke, what are our hobbies?
In short, who are we? We are the generation of the internet and the age
of information. We are so diverse in our morals and how we look, act and
dress. Yet we all come together under one leaf. We are so diverse and
yet we do have many similarities. We typically hide in shops, houses and
garages to smoke our wonderful herb because the outside world thinks
it's odd. They think this is an old man's hobby and don't realize that
it has a massive cult following. We don't have a face.
Not all of us have beards but some of us do. We aren't all Hipsters or
Hippies or Yuppies or Preppies or Gentlemen. Some of us are young (18+)
and some of us are old. Collectively we are the face of pipe smokers in
the digital world.
